Marilyn’s Soul Sessions

Some spiritual teachers who claim that once you connect with Source/God, you’ll never have to struggle again. I call BS on that!

It’s a wonderful theory, but it leads to massive disappointment (along with guilt, doubt, and unfair expectations) in the real world. Your connection helps you get better at dealing with struggles, but it does not remove them from your life.

Weekly Wisdom: Your struggles can be the catalysts that lead you to the next great adventure in life.

Think of the memoirs and stories you hear from people you admire. Those stories are always full of hardship, obstacles, and life-changing events that made them who they are today.

I’m living my dream, but my life isn’t any more exempt from challenges than yours is.

For example, the other night I got my anxiety-ridden dog ready for surgery, gave the cat Prozac, put out the toaster oven fire in the kitchen (thank goodness I came in on time!), and fired the gardener who tried to rip me off—all in a single hour.

But you know what? At the end of that hour, I settled down with a nice glass of rose and cheered the great stories my life is giving me for when the time comes to write my memoir.

So, if when the shit hits the fan and you aren’t all Zen, meditating somewhere beautiful, staring at stars, and calm as a cucumber, don’t worry.

If what you’re actually doing is like what I did this time around—drinking wine, eating too many chips, and trying not to panic, it’s okay. You’re okay. That’s a perfectly normal reaction, and it doesn’t mean anything about your long-term success. (You know I trust this stuff, but wine and chips were more of a go-to this time than anything resembling Zen…and I think it’s important to be real about that.)

Making dreams happen takes hard work.

You, me, and everyone who’s ever existed wants it to be easy. We want to express our desires and have them show up in our lives with effortless evolution, grace, and ease.

Instead, we find ourselves asking, “Why is this so hard? Why can’t this be easier? Why do I have to do all of this challenging stuff when all I want to do is live my dream?

What’s truly happening, though, is that life is preparing us. It’s giving us situations that make us stronger, more capable, and more skilled. It’s giving us our own memoir-worthy stories.

“When life is hard, you have to change.”
~Blind Melon

So, next time you’re dealing with the opposite of “easy peasy all the way,” shift your perspective by thinking, “World, get ready for my memoir because this is going to be an awesome story of triumph!”

Next week, I won’t be doing a Live, but in the newsletter, I’ll share an amazing story of love, support, and kindness delivered in a moment of deep need.

XO,

Marilyn
