Marilyn’s Soul Sessions

How many times have you ordered a book, course, class, etc., with the best of intentions to change your life…and then never used it? But in your heart and soul, you know that things could be better and that you have to do something to make that happen.

I think we get overwhelmed or we talk ourselves out of striving for more because what we have is “okay” or at least not so uncomfortable that we refuse to live that way anymore.

Learning a new system feels complicated, making changes causes discomfort, and at some point, we think, “I’m trying to make life easier and more comfortable! I’ll come back to this stuff later.”

But life is life, and there are always going to be challenges, new situations to face, and the tyranny of the urgent trying to convince you that your long-term goals and dreams can wait.

Weekly Wisdom: Small shifts in how you approach things can lead to big changes.

Maybe you can’t commit to something big, but you can commit to something small. For the next 30 days, commit to doing 1 of the following things (just 1 for the entire 30 days):

  1. Breathe with deep, slow breaths—focusing only on your breath—for 5 minutes each day.
  2. Name 3 things you love about yourself every day.
  3. Name 3 things you’re grateful for each day, and say thank you for them.
  4. Let go of your problems for one day each week. Choose to focus on something else, something positive, for an entire day—dive into your work, take a walk, play tennis, play with your kids, have a special date day, spend the day imagining your ideal day.
  5. Make a Soul List. For more info on how to do this, write the word “SOUL” without the quotes in the comment section of this Facebook Live ➔ June 5th Live. If you haven’t listened to that Live yet, it’s wonderful! Ana Maria Vasquez is my guest, and she shares a great story about what can happen when you live in connection with your soul. But you don’t have to listen if you don’t have time.

Just pick 1 thing from the above list. Except for #4, they all involve only 5 minutes a day. So, pick the thing that strikes you as ridiculously easy, stick with it for 30 days, and watch your life change. Don’t worry about what comes afterward. Don’t try to analyze why it will or won’t work. Just do it.
