Now, let’s talk tarot! There’s too much fear about how the cards work, and it’s time to clear that fear so that you’ll have another tool in your box that helps you get answers and live a life you’re happy and excited about each day.

Personal Story

When I first moved to LA, it was right after 9/11, I turned down my ex-boyfriend when he proposed, and I went to see a famous medium (this person was so well known that Jennifer Aniston went to her).

She gave me a reading that was the opposite of everything I loved. She told me I was meant to work in real estate. Nothing about the reading felt right, it just further confused me, and I felt bad because I wanted to trust the medium and thought that she had a direct link to Guides that would help me.

Fast forward seven to eight years, and this same medium and I sat down together as friends. I learned that the reading she’d given me all those years ago was what SHE wanted to do. She projected herself into my reading and gave me horrible information because of it.

Has something similar ever happened to you? It seems to happen far to often.

That leads me to this week’s power tip.

Weekly Wisdom: Stop giving so much power to people outside of yourself. Connect directly with your Guides, strengthen those relationships, trust them, get to know yourself, and listen to your heart and soul.

The above is the entire reason that I decided to learn tarot. I went to the president of the tarot association and learned everything I could about the cards—the symbolism and possible meanings of every detail of each card.

And do you know what happened? I learned so much that I stopped being able to read the cards at all! The formulas were getting in the way of communicating with the cards!

After all of that, I realized the most important part of tarot.

The secret? Everything that’s in any tarot deck is in your heart and soul. Everything! So, when you pick out a deck, you’re reflecting what’s in your soul. The cards and images are just reflecting the inner wisdom of your heart and soul—the truth of your heart and soul. The cards are just tools.

So, it doesn’t matter what deck you use. It can be animal, Oracle, angel, color, soul, Rider-Waite, or even a magazine. The deck doesn’t matter. Whatever you use, it’ll come to life and speak to you as long as you’re working with your Guides, step into the card, and apply what you see and feel to what’s happening. Communicate with the cards.

If you’d like to see an example of me doing this, I do a reading during the Live for Emma, starting at about 16:00. Click HERE for the replay.

I don’t know Emma. She was attending the Live, and I just randomly picked her and did a reading using the information I’m sharing with you today. And here’s what she said afterward:

Emma · 18:51 That was SPOT ON Marilyn !! <3 Thank you so much!!

As far as I know, no one else teaches you how to interact with the cards directly instead of following formulas. I don’t want you reliant on recipes. I want you to walk into the kitchen of your life, look in your cupboard and fridge, and know how to feed your soul with what you already have surrounding you.

The following tips are going to help you do that.

6 Friggin’ Fantastic Tarot Tips

  1. Get intimate with the cards. Get to know them. Ask yourself why you want to use tarot. Why is this tool the one that’s important to you?
  2. Choose a deck based on your feelings. Do you like animals, flowers, angels, or something else? You can even just use a magazine and turn to a page. If you just deeply want to learn official cards, get a Rider-Waite deck to learn. But once you have the basics, go where you want
  3. Put aside the book that comes with the cards for now. Why? I want you to be free from relying on formulas. I want you to get to where you can trust your Guides and yourself. People need different tools and techniques to get started, so it’s fine to use tools like decks. Just know that eventually, you won’t need the deck to do a reading.
  4. There are no rules to Tarot. There isn’t one way to read the cards. The “rules” are in your heart and soul. I want to get you into power so that the cards speak to you without you needing to know someone else’s interpretation of each card.
  5. Set up a ritual to use tarot based on what you like. I initially had a ritual with candles. I felt there had to be a certain number and that they had to be a certain color and arranged a certain way. I don’t do any of that now, but it helped me in the beginning. I’d shuffle the cards ten times to clear the cards because I liked it. But if that doesn’t work for you, do what works for you. No ritual is also okay if that’s what you feel works for you.
  6. Every day, choose a card and read it for your life. Choose one card each day. You may not know anything about the card, but you know what you like and don’t like. Pick out one thing that stands out to you on the card. Write down why you like it. Does it make sense with what’s going on in your life right now?

One last thing for today. I use what I call the “dot, dot, dot technique.” I don’t look at a card and say, “The yellow jumps out at me.” I ask what the yellow means to me. So, it’s more like, “The yellow jumps out at me…what’s that have to do with my life right now?”
